Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing and largest technology sectors. It is projected that $1 trillion will be spent globally on Cybersecurity from 2017 to 2021. Cybercrime damages will also cost the world $6 trillion annually by 2021. By 2019, the demand for Cybersecurity professionals will increase to approximately 6 million globally.
In an effort to build a more resilient cyber environment for Singapore, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has announced the Singapore’s Cybersecurity Strategy at the Singapore International Cyber Week on 10 October 2016. In the Prime Minister’s Foreword, it is stated that as we rely more on Infocomm Technologies, it also makes us vulnerable. Cyber threats and attacks are becoming more sophisticated, with more severe consequences. Hence, we cannot take Cybersecurity for granted. The Government is also urging businesses to provide their employees with training opportunities in Cybersecurity and also to protect their customers’ personal data. This is part of a collective effort to protect Singapore’s Cyberspace. As an industry, Cybersecurity offers opportunities and good jobs for Singaporeans.
This programme is also aligned with the plans laid out in the National Cyber Security Masterplan 2018 and one of the key areas of focus is to grow Singapore’s pool of cyber security experts.
